The Zero by Jess Walter - Book Review by Professor Africa Fine

PBCC South Campus Professor Fine tells us that the title refers to Ground Zero, which has been shortened by some of the police who survived. This is not a romanticizing of 9 11 but rather a story about Brian Remy, a hero cop who wakes up to find that he shot himself in the head just days after the attacks.  There is a surreal, Kafka-esque flavor to this novel that is both disturbing and intriguing.   The novel asks questions about morality, about forgiveness and also, about how September 11^th changed us all.
